THE FOLLOWING LETTER WAS SENT TO HER MAJESTY SOPHIA THE QUEEN OF SPAIN AND TO HER BROTHER HIS MAJESTY CONSTANTINE THE EX-KING OF THE HELLENES
Subject: THE BURNING DOWN OF ST MAVRA'S CHURCH
Your Majesties
Wishing You and Your Families well from the bottom of my heart I would very much like to inform you of a tragic event which took place 2 years ago that is the burning down of St Mavra's church in the village of Macherado on the Island of Zakynthos.
This precious monument ,one of the very few of its kind in the whole of Europe is gone.
the poor inhabitants of the village are in actual fact unable to rebuild the burnt church and help does not seem to come from anywhere.
Your Great Grandmother Queen Olga was a benefactor of this church and that is one of the reasons why we address to You so that You might be able to help in any way You could.
We appeal to You not asking You to dispose of Your funds but to exert Your influence among the people You know so that they might help in any appropriate manner.
Being more than sure that You will see to this matter I conclude this letter hoping that there will be an answer giving hope to our anguish.
Yours faithfully
Anastasios A Antiochos
Economist -leader of the Opposition
at the Municipality of Artemision of Zakynthos

A NOTE ADDRESSED ESPECIALLY TO HER MAJESTY SOPHIA THE QUEEN OF SPAIN WHO IS ABOUT TO VISIT THE ISLAND OF ZAKYNTHOS INVITED BY THE MARINE PARK OF THE ISLAND IN ORDER TO SYMBOLICALLY ADOPT TWO LOGGERHEAD TURTLES .
YOUR MAJESTY,
AFTER YOU HAVE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WE DO HOPE THAT SOMETHING WILL BEGIN HAPPENING IN VIEW OF YOUR EXPECTED DIVINE MOVE.
The burning down of an historic monument
On December 8th 2005 the renowned historic monument of Saint Mavra's church was burnt down in the town of Macherado on the Island of Zakynthos Greece.
Zakynthos(Zante) a very popular holiday destination for European and especially British
holiday makers used to pride itself in this special monument on account of its exceptional architectural value and the exquisite interior of the the church which was adorned with icons painted by very famous painters both in Greece and internationally .
The cause of the fire is still unknown and there are many speculations as to this cause ranging from the accidental to a possible well organised terrorist act.The latter possible cause should not easily be discarded taking into consideration the numerous such cases across Europe and North America following the September 11th terrorist attack.
WE the inhabitants of Zakynthos have already stopped crying over spilt milk and have let bygones be bygones. Now we are going to great lengths trying using our meagre financial means to rebuild and re-adorn the church but unfortunately our means are not enough.
Unfortunately a preeminent individual, the local bishop of the Diocese of Zakynthos, could and should have given considerable help, is expected,to do something substantial in order to help the rebuilding of the church .
It is actually high time the Bishop Chrysostomos
DID something.
Now as a first step we call upon all God Believing people and heritage lovers whatever their origin and country is to help with the rebuilding of the church. All high street banks in Zakynthos and especially the BANK OF CYPRUS ,THE BANK OF PIREUS ,THE ALPHA BANK AND THE NATIONAL BANK OF GREECE have opened special accounts and everybody willing to contribute can send any amount of money they wish and can spare. The cause is divine.
The people of Zakynthos will be eternally grateful to you for doing so.
When sending any kind of help you are kindly asked to let us know so as the parish priest and the church council to announce your names to the congregation and to the mass media.
please e-mail us at :antiochost@gmail.com.
WE THANK YOU IN ANTICIPATION TO YOUR HUMANE RESPONSE> I
